Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-04-27 (DRAFT)

1. What this service is

SecurityDepositBack ("we," "us," or "the Service") is a self-help software platform that helps U.S. renters prepare and send certified demand letters regarding security deposit disputes. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, and your use of this Service does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and SecurityDepositBack or any attorney who reviewed our templates.

2. Acceptance

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

3. The service we provide

For a one-time fee, we will:

  • Generate a state-specific certified demand letter using attorney-reviewed templates and the structured information you provide;
  • Print and dispatch the letter via USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt Requested;
  • Provide a dashboard to track delivery status and case timeline;
  • Optionally provide a follow-up notice and a Complete Case Bundle as add-on purchases.

We do not file documents in court for you, represent you in any legal proceeding, or guarantee that your landlord will respond, return your deposit, or take any other action.

4. Your responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate, truthful information about your tenancy, the deposit amount, your landlord, and the facts of your case;
  • Not use the Service to harass, defraud, threaten, or knowingly send false information to any party;
  • Not impersonate another person or attempt to send a letter on behalf of someone other than yourself;
  • Comply with all applicable laws.

5. Pricing and payment

Current pricing is shown on our homepage and at checkout. All fees are charged via Stripe. See our Refund Policy for cancellation rights.

6. Refunds

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy. In short: full refund within 48 hours of purchase if the letter has not yet been mailed; no refund once the letter is in the mail stream.

7. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES OR REPRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE OUTCOME OF ANY DISPUTE OR LETTER, OR ABOUT THE ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF THE SERVICE FOR YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION. RESULTS VARY BY CASE AND JURISDICTION.

We do not provide legal advice. Templates are reviewed by licensed attorneys before publication, but template review is not legal advice tailored to your situation. If your case is unusual or high-stakes, consult a licensed attorney in your state.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us for the specific letter or case at issue. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages.

9. Acceptable use

We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, including by using the Service to send fraudulent, harassing, or unlawful communications.

10. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules. You waive any right to participate in a class action against us.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via email to active users.
